Capoeira Music

Music plays such an important role in capoeira. Without the music there can be no roda. The continuous call-and-response between the soloist and chorus creates an endless circle of musical energy. The songs may speak of famous capoeiristas, their adventures and struggles for freedom. Some speak of capoeiristas hopes and dreams; while others of their everyday lives. The music will even refer to an ongoing game; giving insite, encouragement and even mockery to the players within.
